Ken Schmidt, Brand Visionary and Communications Strategist for Harley-Davidson Motor Company

One of the most in-demand speakers and communications consultants in America, Ken Schmidt has lived a life that most can only dream about. He has toured the world on two wheels, met with presidents and royalty, partied with movie and music legends, and appeared numerous times on network news. As the former director of communications for Harley-Davidson Motor Company, he played an active role in one of the most celebrated turnarounds in corporate history - and got paid to ride motorcycles.

In 1997, Schmidt left Harley-Davidson to take an ownership position with a highly successful Chicago-based marketing firm, VSA Partners. In addition to Harley-Davidson, VSA serves many other of the world's best-known brands, including General Motors, Coca-Cola, IBM, and Campbell's Soup. In July 1999, he sold his portion of VSA to start his own business, Ken Schmidt Company, and slow down the pace of his life.

 


Valerie Vargas, Vice President of Advertising, AT&T

As Vice President of Advertising in the AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets organization, Valerie Vargas is responsible for managing creative messaging and production of AT&T advertising across all marketing channels including online, television and direct mail. She is also currently responsible for driving one of the largest transformations in the direct mail space as AT&T centralizes and automates key parts of their marketing operations resulting in reduced costs, better cycle time and more relevant marketing.

Valerie's history with AT&T emanates from BellSouth Cellular as a Market Research Manager and Manager of Strategic Alliances. She was on the Marketing Merger team in forming Cingular Wireless and was the Director of National Sponsorships at time of the brand launch. Valerie departed from telecom for five years to gain incremental marketing expertise in the financial services arena serving as Senior Vice President of Marketing in HomeBanc Mortgage Corporation. In 2007, she returned to the new AT&T as Vice President of Advertising over the Consumer Wired portion of the business and ultimately into the combined Wired and Wireless Consumer organization, where she serves today. Erin Lesley is the Learning Management System (LMS) Supervisor for the Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America competency development department responsible for delivering training to North American corporate, dealer and customer personnel. Formerly the Director of Marketing Sciences at Kodak Center of Excellence, Vice President of Research and Development at the AIIM Group, and Director of New Technologies for the Transcontinental Center of Excellence, Serge is CEO at SG Analytics and is recognized as the leading authority in the application of integrated modeling techniques to multi-channel marketing solutions.

After a successful career as a statistician developing predictive models with Applied Marketing Statistics Inc., Serge became the Senior Research Scientist with the Institute for Market Statistical Analysis where he entrenched the concept of response and penetration models in place of generic segmentation systems.

Jeff Harris, CEO, JSA


Jeff Harris has been involved in The Junior Statesmen program for more than 20 years – as a high school student leader, program director, civic educator and mentor to students. He was named chief executive in 2010. Career highlights include creating the Junior State's popular student-run Congressional simulation format and spearheading the Junior Statesmen Foundation's urban outreach programs. Jeff has directed 14 sessions of The Junior Statesmen Summer School – month long academic programs for high school students held on the campuses of Georgetown, Stanford, Princeton and other prestigious universities.

For more than a decade, Jeff worked directly with students in Southern California to create high quality political awareness and involvement programs. Jeff ran the highly successful Symposium on Los Angeles Politics and Government and has also run programs on California and Texas state politics and government as well as overseeing a prestigious speakers program in Washington, D.C. He was JSA's executive director from 2008-2010.

 


John Leininger, Professor, Clemson University

John Leininger has been a Professor in the Department of Graphic Communications at Clemson University for 25 years. He is a regular speaker at trade shows and trade conferences dealing with topics centered around digital print, variable data, mail prep, database management, cross media, marketing and web-to-print. He has hosted over 100 training sessions dealing with variable data hands-on training through the traveling VDP Training Consortium out of Clemson University. Edwin Bokuniewicz, Business Development Manager, Ricoh

Ed has 30 years of experience in the Graphic Arts industry working for various companies such as Agfa Compugraphic Corporation, Linotype Company, Presentation Technologies, Inc., Pantone, Inc., and Xerox Corporation.

His 7 year tenure at Xerox Corporation included the rolls of Marketing Operation Manager for Production Color Solutions and DI Product Manager supporting the Graphic Arts industry in North America. Ed is also one of the original developers and Business Development managers of the Xerox Marketing Partnership Program (Profit Accelerator program).

In 2002, Ed joined the marketing department within the Digital division of Heidelberg USA then transitioned to Eastman Kodak within the Graphic Communications Group as a Business Development Manager. His role was to assist and consult clients in adapting to the technology of Digital Printing and communications, in both Full Color and Black & White solutions. The main focus of "The MarketMover" program was, to fully educate customers on how to be successful, productive, and profitable within various markets. Assisting the customer in marketing their business is a key element in developing a strategy. Industry statistics, marketing tools, and application success stories are provided as value added elements within the Business Development Services program.

In September 2008, Ed joined Ricoh within the Production Printing Business Group as a Senior Marketing- Business Development Manager supporting the North America for production color solutions. Ed has developed the new Ricoh Business Booster Program at Ricoh. His role is to also manage and deliver this business development program to Ricoh PPG customers in the United States, Canada, and Latin America.

 


Mike Chiricuzio, VP Operations, LAK Advertising & VDP Direct

Consultant, coach, educator, digital print pioneer, and ne'er do well, Mike has over 35 years of experience in commercial printing with 14 of those leading the evolution of color digital printing. Currently he is working with LAK/VDP, going from good to great. He was Director of Arizona State University Print & Imaging Lab and President of Blue Moon Solutions consulting from 2004-2010. Over his many years in the industry he has helped many Arizona companies grow revenue, including R and R Images, OneSource Digital Solutions, Heritage Graphics and Prisma Graphic. Brian Dollard, Director Product Marketing, Océ NA, Production Printing Systems

Brian Dollard has worked in the commercial and digital printing technology industry for more than 25 years. After starting his career in the commercial printing sector as a press operator, production manager and later a general manager for full-service commercial printers serving major universities and publishers, he gained experience in digital technology at PrimeSource Corporation, where he advanced through the ranks of the organization to hold positions of increasing responsibility in sales, sales management and marketing. He joined the Hewlett Packard Company in 2001 as National Accounts Manager and joined Océ North America in 2004.

Today, as Director of Product Marketing for Océ North America Production Printing Systems, Mr. Dollard is responsible for planning, developing and executing marketing strategies for Océ cutsheet production printing systems. In this capacity, his responsibilities also include developing product marketing, product launches, sales support, positioning, pricing and competitive analysis for all cutsheet production printing systems. As such, he is actively engaged in market and customer research to identify market trends in digital printing and issues facing customers in order to develop targeted solutions.

 

Paul England, Color Products Manager, Océ Production Printing Systems

Paul England has spent more than fifteen years in the printing industry, with tenures at both Océ and HP. He has been a guest speaker and panelist at many conferences, from educational forums at CalPoly and RIT to industry events like Xplor and GraphExpo.

Paul has authored papers on industry trends from the environmental footprint of digital printing to the impact of China on the global printing market. He holds a BSBA in Marketing, a BA in English and an MBA from Jacksonville State University, and serves on the University's Alumni Advisory Board.

 


Douglas Gibson, Managing Director, ISL

Douglas Gibson established ISL www.infigosoftware.com in 2010 as an independent company to propel adoption of the Infigo Web2print suite of products. Since its launch in October 2007, Infigo has achieved a significant foothold across trade and commercial print markets.

Douglas began to focus on the commercial print market in 1997 when he worked with a range of Xerox customers for Xclusive. He then spent three years at EFI as the European Technology Manager for Xerox before returning to join his Xclusive colleagues at Bytes Document Solutions in mid 2007. As the product manager for Infigo at Bytes, Douglas spearheaded the complete development, planning, distribution and marketing of the Infigo web-to-print solution before setting up ISL.

 


Marc Johnson, Market & Business Development, HP

Marc Johnson is the Market and Business Development lead for direct marketing & production mail for the HP Indigo & Inkjet Digital Press business. In this role, Marc works with customers, their customers, and their agencies to identify opportunities and solutions that drive profitable growth for the entire ecosystem: printer, client, and HP. Marc has over 20 years of experience in marketing, business development, product management, technical, and sales roles with technology leaders including Eastman Kodak, Presstek, Creo, Scitex, Varityper, and Inacomp. Marc has been involved with "Desktop Publishing" from its genesis, working on the start-up of a community newspaper and PostScript service bureau, and later helping agencies and designers "make friends with the mouse" and transition to digital design and print workflows.

 


Joseph Manos, Executive Vice President, MindFireInc

Joseph Manos, Executive Vice President has 25 years of executive management experience working with industry-leading companies providing integrated business solutions to the Graphic Arts community, as well as Corporate Enterprise Clients. He has had a long career of building successful companies from start-up as well as turn-around and growth of struggling operations. For the last 6 years he has been responsible for the successful launch and growth of companies providing web-based, variable data printing solutions (ASP and stand alone apps) to the Graphic Arts industry. His experience will be critical for the next wave of growth and strategic initiatives developed by MindFireInc®. Steve McPhee, Sales Manager, Online Print Solutions

As Sales Manager, Steve is responsible for driving Online Print Solutions' (OPS) growth and profitability. In this role, Steve works with entire sales force at OPS in all areas of direct sales and channel partnerships to bring about favorable outcomes for all parties. Since joining Online Print Solutions in 2007, Steve has played a key role in the growth of the company and has been instrumental in OPS becoming one of the leading vendors in the Web-to-Print and Cross-Media space. Prior to joining OPS Steve worked for Granite Telecommunications, one of the largest telecommunication wholesalers in the country.

Jerry joined Kodak in 1980. During his career, his responsibilities have included VP of Business Strategy and Financial Planning, WW Product General Manager - Digital Print Managed Services, WW Internet Software Product Manager, WW Pricing and Compensation Director, Regional Sales Director, WW Regional Director, Branch Business Manager, and International Market Research Manager. These positions were with Eastman Kodak, Danka/DSI, Heidelberg, NexPress, and Xerox.

Jerry has lived in London, England and has visited and been active in over 30 countries. He has an MBA from Wayne State University.

In his current role, Jerry manages the high speed inkjet business as well as the cut sheet electrophotographic business for US, Canada, and Latin America.

 


David Palmieri, Director of Strategic Accounts & Business Alliances, CGS

As Director of Strategic Accounts & Business Alliances, David Palmieri is responsible for managing all strategic sales activity and business partnership alliances for CGS in North America. In addition he serves as the Director of Sales for CGS Canada. David began his career with CGS in October of 2000 as the Eastern Regional Sales Manager with an extremely successful track record of year over year sales performance. He has developed and managed strategic business relationships with national accounts such as RR Donnelley, Quad Graphics and Consolidated Graphics. Additionaly David has been instrumental in building business partnerships with printing industry manufacturers such as Xerox, HP, Canon, Océ and MGI. Paul has spent 29 years in printing and allied fields, including advertising and communications. With such experience, he understands the impact of the print communication channel like few others. And this knowledge serves him well as he leads Kodak programs and activities to educate customers about how digital printing solutions can dramatically improve the way people live, work and do business. Now focused on both commercial and publishing marketplaces in North and South America, Paul has held various roles at Kodak since 1992 in both consumer and business-to-business sectors. Solutions that employ the latest digital marketing and print technologies to drive value and results are of particular interest to Paul. His professional background includes education at one of the nation's premier universities focused on graphic and printing technology—Rochester Institute of Technology. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from RIT, Paul joined one of the world's largest advertising agencies, Young & Rubicam, focusing on creative services and print production. Eric is responsible for overall direction and product strategy for PressWise, the end-to-end print workflow solution, as SmartSoft continues to drive their position in the print workflow market.

A serial entrepreneur, business consultant, and former printer, Eric created PressWise in 2003 to help manage his growing digital print fulfillment company. In 2008 he launched the PressWise Software-as-a-Service product and the following year PressWise was acquired by Datatech SmartSoft.

Waleed is president and chief executive officer, Lithexcel Communications Services Provider. Dave Erlandson, General Manager, Caslon & Company

Dave Erlandson is General Manager of Caslon & Co. a firm that specializes in helping companies take advantage of the new business opportunities enabled by digital printing. One of Caslon's primary activities is to serve as the North American Affiliate for PODi, the Digital Print Initiative. PODi is a leading industry initiative focused on developing the market for digital printing through market education and standards activities.

Howie Fenton, Senior Consultant, NAPL

During his 20+ year industry career, Howie Fenton has advised commercial printers, in-plants, and manufacturers on workflow management, operations, digital services, and customer research.

With both commercial and in-plant printers, he focuses on benchmarking financial and operational effectiveness and determining the cost of internal manufacturing vs. that of outsourcing. He identifies and repairs inefficient estimating, customer service, and production processes, as well as bottlenecks and quality control issues.

Using NAPL proprietary research tools, Fenton reviews the competitiveness of commercial and in-plant company products, services, and staff; studies and quantifies the changes in customer needs; and helps companies add new products and digital services that will increase sales and profitability.

His two books on digital and variable data printing has led him to serve as a judge for the PODi Best Practices Awards and Xerox Pixi awards, and work on the PIA Digital Printing Council and HP Digital Printing Advisory Council.

 

Lisa Murphy, Senior Manager - Business Development and Marketing, metaio, Inc.

Lisa Murphy is a senior development manager at metaio, the world leader in Augmented Reality (AR) solutions. She joined metaio in the San Francisco office in 2009, as the first U.S. employee. Murphy oversees metaio's growing presence in the U.S. market and is extensively involved with the company's pioneering outreach in the space. During her tenure at metaio, Murphy has led major disruptive augmented reality campaigns for Fortune 100 clients like Toyota, Sappi, AT&T, NBC Universal, and others in online, mobile and in-store platforms. Prior to her current role, she led the business development and marketing efforts for junaio, an Augmented Reality platform, growing it to over 1.7 million users, 5,000 developers, and 500 content channels. She is a leader in the evangelism of augmented reality, speaking at Consumer Electronics Show, App Nation, Television of Tomorrow, and Search Engine Strategies conferences.

Prior to joining the start-up scene, Murphy worked at Visa Inc. in finance operations as a financial analyst managing and reporting on Visa's legal entities.

Tawnya Starr first learned the power of the web in 1999 when she experienced phenomenal sales growth after launching a website for her printing company in New Mexico. In April 2000, she became president of PrinterPresence. Today, PrinterPresence provides websites, web-to-print and marketing solutions to over 3,000 printing and graphics companies on 5 continents. Ms. Starr has dedicated her career to educating the printing industry on web marketing and how companies of any size can save time and money while attracting and retaining customers. Prior to being the founder of Eclipse in 2006, he spent the previous ten years at RR Donnelley where he held several operational and management positions. In addition to being the Managing Director at the Digital Print Solutions division in the Netherlands, he was a Member of the European Management Board and responsible for international strategic development, realizing a significant expansion of the group's digital activities worldwide.
